English Exam Final

In our English class we had discussed every thing from the simple ESLR’s to the complained and in depth Blooms Taxonomy. Through this year I fell that I had gained experience and knowledge on all areas. Of course in the thesis I would not be able to shrink every thing that has happened in our English class but there are a few fundamental points I feel are a key subject I have learned in the year. The ideas I will be talking about is Mercy vs. Revenge, the power of writing and literature and lastly the overall personal growth I have endured through out the year.

The power of writing and literature are too different to describe. The year’s process has taught me much about their differences. I have learned that the length of your piece is nothing compared to the way you write it. Through out the year we have done various assignments such as the poetry unit, blog, teen life project and the drama script.  I had slowly learned through each stage whether writing or literature should be used to complete my finally product. The poetry unit for me was definitely all used with literature. The ways we had to share our feelings and express them through words was far more challenging than any essay I have ever attempted to write. The courage and skill it takes to unleash that kind of creativity was truly inspiring. In the blog we had used a mixture of both literature and writing. The literature part of our blog came when we were discussing any feelings we had or when we were doing a poem for an assignment. We used writing when we had to document or express the facts we learned like our current events or our reflection. All in all we had an equal mixed between them both. The mix of them both is quite useful in our days. Could you just image if we had to always speak poetically. All the information for studies or technology would be a mess. The third assignment we did was the Teen life project in this particular assignment we especially had to use a blend of them both. The beginning of our movie we created on global warming had shown some pictures while showing a poem to drag the viewers in and to make them think of what they just read while deeper in the movie our group had used writing to show facts and information to really give the viewers what they should be aware of. Lastly we had the drama script, which was something new to me. We had used a new language that blended the two into one. The play my partner and I created didn’t sound like it was written by shakes sphere while also not sounding like we were reading an essay out loud. The power they both have is quite different in their own unique way. Literature is used to unlock hidden feeling or emotions that lurk in your soul, which can give readers information while still not overwhelming them. The difference it has with writing is that instead of giving some information filled with burst of emotion it had little emotion but gave a lot of information. The difference can be easy to see you just have to experience them both.

Mercy vs. revenge is expressed differently to every individual person. In my personal view I feel that mercy is always the way to go. People might contradict with me but as I said before this is my own opinion. Revenge to me has no solution but many bad results. It doesn’t help prevent or solve anything all it does is make things worst. Although I said that mercy is always the way to go if a certain person does a crime a second time and doesn’t change revenge will appear. My opinion for this subject is still not concrete but through out this year my thought and feelings grew and grew. We had read a book recently called Lord of the Flies and a particular scene called to me when I heard revenge. On the inhabited island Jack had just stolen Piggy’s glasses, which made Ralph fill up with anger and revenge. When Ralph when to Jack to solve the problem with revenge he ended up losing Piggy’s life. The final result Ralph had lost the only friend he had on that island. This way the section of our studies we learned in English class that thought me that Revenge is not the way to go. Another book we read was The Tempest that showed me to always use mercy. When Prospero the magical wizard showed his brother and all he has done mercy his life in the end turned out perfectly. So I would just like to reiterate my strong opinion on Mercy vs. revenge.

The personal growth I feel I have endured through the year is far more that I ever thought possible. I have improved in my confidence, communication and teamwork. This year we had a new criteria I was horrified about but overall I have no regrets. If it wasn’t for this class I would have never done the things I though I was capable of like plays and appearances. In drama we had done plays and appearances which really improved and increased my confidences while learning to come out of my comfortable zone. The confidence I gained helped me in reading my poem out to the audience at the poetry night while also giving me the courage to allow the viewers to come and see my work in my poetry book. My communication skill was another area I had improved on dramatically. The poetry night and book helped this trait but was really pushed by the Teen life project. I had to adapt to the thought of not being able to call a fiend and tell him what to do from the movie and learn to wait for his/her reply online. My communication in poems like Haikus also boosted my knowledge with things like metaphors, alliterations, Onomatopoeia and many others. Lastly my teamwork improved with the help from the teen life project and the Anne Frank movie. The Teen life project as I said before helped me work with people from other countries but the Anne Frank Movie let me learn to give equal amounts of work to everyone and to put all our pieces together to form the movie.

To conclude I would just like to say that I felt that in English this year I learned many characteristics that will defiantly benefit me in the future such as blooms taxonomy, ESLR understanding and the six traits. The ones I have listed above not only improved my education but also my personality. So over all I am going to cherish all we have learned this year for the rest of my life.
